Tara McHugh-Lee
I’m a versatile leader whose career has woven through retail, childcare, digital marketing, social enterprise, and yes, spooky season fundraising. Before stepping into my current role as Executive Director of the Ladysmith Healthcare Auxiliary Thrift Store, I served as the Operations Manager for five years. During that time, I developed a deep understanding of our day-to-day workings and a true appreciation for the heartbeat of our store: our volunteers and community.
Today, I continue to work and volunteer alongside our incredible team, overseeing daily operations, nurturing strong relationships, and helping guide our growth as a social enterprise. I also volunteer at The Big Shop of Horrors, a haunted house fundraiser that supports Vancouver Island food banks and local charities—one of my favourite ways to blend creativity, mission, and community impact.
Whether I’m launching a new initiative, solving logistical puzzles, or creating memorable experiences for our volunteers, I thrive at the intersection of people and purpose. I believe in the power of thrift, storytelling, and shared experiences to foster connection and belonging. When I’m not working, you’ll find me exploring the beauty of Vancouver Island, diving into a creative project, or enjoying cozy conversations over a warm cup with friends.
