About two and a half years ago, my husband and I retired in Manitoba and decided to move to the place we've always loved—and now permanently call home—Vancouver Island.
After retiring from an Executive Director position, where I worked in housing and supporting people with intellectual disabilities, oversaw numerous staff, and managed all aspects of a non-profit agency, I felt the need to use some of my expertise and experience to give back.
After browsing through the Thrift Store with my husband, I inquired about volunteer opportunities. No sooner had I asked than I was approached to become the Personnel Director. I gladly accepted and enjoy assisting with issues that arise in an organization with such a large group of volunteers. I also manage staff performance reviews and HR administrative details—and I have the enjoyment of working with wonderful people.
It is truly a warm feeling of community that the LHCA and its Thrift Store offers.
